Mineral-insulated RTD temperature probes consist of a flexible, thin-walled stainless steel sheath cable in which low ohmic conductor copper wires are embedded in compressed, heat-resistant magnesium oxide.

The temperature sensor is connected with the conductor-copper wires in two-wire, three-wire, or four-wire technology and housed in a stainless-steel protection tube. The protection tube and sheath cable are welded to one another.

The good thermal transfer between the protection tube and temperature sensor enable short response times (t0.5 from 0.7 s) and excellent measuring accuracy. The vibration-resistant construction guarantees a long operating life. The flexible sheath cable allows temperature measurements to be made at difficult-to-access points. The smallest bending radius is 5 times the outer diameter. As of an insertion length of approximately 1000 mm the elements are delivered in a rolled state.

Per default, mineral-insulated RTD temperature probes are supplied with a Pt100 temperature sensor according to DIN EN 60751, class B. Versions with a Pt500 or Pt1000 are also available. The connection is available in a three-wire or four-wire circuit as an option.

Various process connections are available for the different requirements of sub-areas in the food/pharmaceutical industry. The probes can be installed with ease using tightening bands or cable ties so that mechanical modification of the measuring location does not need to take place.The indirect method of temperature measurement avoids disruption of the medium flow. Additionally, the operating life of the RTD temperature probe is not shortened by the effects of either pressure or chemicals.The low thermal mass of the probe means that it has very little influence on the measured object. Heat-conducting paste is available to improve heat transfer. Large differences in temperature between the measurement medium and the surrounding environment will directly influence the measurement. In such cases, additional insulation around the sensor is recommendable.Per default, the measuring insert is fitted with a Pt100 temperature sensor according to DIN EN 60751, class B in a two-wire circuit; versions with Pt500 or Pt1000 are also available.
